Product Certification and Accreditation System

Introduction

ISO/IEC 17065 is an International Standard that provides requirements for bodies certifying Products, Processes and Services. Its aim is to promote confidence in Product Certification and prevent negative effects.

This standard is applicable to all types of Product Certification Bodies, whether owned by the Public sector, Private sector or any other organization.

Functions of Product Certification Body

The primary function of a Product Certification Body is to Certify Products, Processes or Services, providing assurance to interested parties that they meet specific requirements. The Certification adds value by establishing a level of confidence and trust through an impartial and competent audit conducted by a third-party Certification Body.

Types of Product Certification Schemes

Product Certification is a crucial mechanism for ensuring compliance with specified requirements outlined in standards, normative documents and applicable schemes. Certification schemes can vary in their approach, with some involving initial testing, inspection and audit of clients' quality management systems. These schemes may also include ongoing surveillance activities that consider both the quality management system and the testing/inspection of samples from production and the open market. Alternatively, certain schemes may rely solely on initial testing and surveillance testing, while others may focus exclusively on type testing. These diverse approaches enable Certification Bodies to provide comprehensive assurance to interested parties regarding the fulfillment of specified requirements, thereby establishing confidence and trust in the certified Products, Processes or Services.
